The Pennypacker Mansion
The Pennypacker Mansion in Schwenksville, once the family and farm home of Civil
War soldier and Pa Governor Samuel Pennypacker is located along the Perkioman
Creek in Montgomery County Pa. The mansion and surrounding lands are rich in history
and are a perfect setting for the annual Civil War Weekend. During the American
Revolution the mansion and property twice were the campground of Washington's
Army. After the battle of Germantown in 1777 the Colonial army rested here during their
retreat to Valley Forge and many of the wounded were cared for in the mansion house.
The property is the burial site of several soldiers who died here. Photos by Bob Levine
